Cllr John Macklin

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Chapel End ward

HELP US HELP YOU !

Monday, June 29th, 2009 by Cllr Bob Belam

There are a number of issues in and around Chapel End ward that will have an affect on your area, your life and that of your families.

We as your councillors would like to hear your views

You may have heard on the grapevine or local press about some of them.

You may have been involved with the CPZ issue or the St Johns Road petition.

Elsewhere in this edition of FOCUS we have outlined an idea about a  20 mph zone which could include one way streets.

The Labour portfolio holder has commissioned consultants to draw up a plan for building  “A Healthy Living Hub” on the Town Hall site. We have concerns over many issues.

Do you have concerns over

· Building over the gardens at the front of the Town Hall

· Closing the Pool & Track

· Building Houses on the Chestnuts Field and the Allotments

· Building Houses on the Monoux playing fields

· Parking

· Speeding vehicles

· Anti Social Behaviour

We will be holding surgeries around the ward over the summer.

We will leaflet your roads with date, time and venue.

Come and meet us, we want to hear from you,

or write to the freepost address

Heatwave alert

Monday, June 29th, 2009 by Cllr Bob Belam

A heatwave alert has been issued by the Met Office amid warnings of extreme temperatures over the next few days.

There is a 70% risk of a heatwave for this week with daytime highs in London reaching 32°C and remaining warm at night.

During a heatwave, when temperatures stay really high day after day, it can sometimes be fatal.

During periods of hot weather you should:

  • Keep out of the heat
  • Stay cool
  • Drink water regularly
  • Seek advice if you have any concerns

Visit the NHS website for further information and advice

The Council will shortly be resurfacing Chingford Rd E17 and this is currently planned to start on Monday 8th June.

The old road surface will be removed to a depth of approximately 85mm and then resurfaced with two new layers of bituminous surfacing. This is should take approximately seven days and will be carried out during restricted working hours of 9.00am – 3.30pm.

It is anticipated that the surfacing operation will start at the new crossing at Evesham Aveand work towards Omnibus WayThe traffic islands at by Aveling Park Rd and Kenilworth Ave will be installed following completion of the surfacing works.Whilst this work is being carried out vehicular access to all of the frontages will be severely restricted including all loading and unloading. It will necessary to close Aveling Park Rd to all vehicular traffic, however, pedestrian access for residents will be maintained at all times. When the closure is in place a local diversion will be signed and in operation. If you would like to discuss the road works further please do not hesitate to contact me either by e-mail at simon.barrett@walthamforest.gov.uk or on 020 8496 1017.

SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAM MEETING

Sunday, May 17th, 2009 by Cllr Bob Belam

The officers of the Chapel End Safer Neighbourhood team met with residents as part of the ward panel scheme. The team will see some changes in personnel, with Rob going to Hendon to train as a police officer. Other members will be joining the team and it will be up to full strength later this month.

Residents raised several issues around anti social behaviour in both Kitchener Park and the Chestnuts field.

They raised issues around litter and trees on the same sites

Your ward councillors have taken up these issues with officers to have them dealt with.

Don’t forget to contact the SNT if you have problems on 07920233816
